Is 750 feet too close?

Home, the safest place we know. Unless of course you live around a turbine bound to have mechanical failures. So, why is it such an extreme request to ask counties in the state of Illinois to create setbacks that actually generate a safety barrier between our homes and Turbines?

The turbine manufacturers create safety barriers for their employees. As stated in the Nordex Tower Safety Manual shown below, during a thunderstorm they should do the following “ leave the wind farm and wait in a vehicle at a safe distance from the WT—approx. 1 km (3,281 feet) until the thunderstorm has passed”.

What mechanical failures can actually occur? Read about just a few of the recent events in the summer of 2022 happening to various turbines across the United States.

1.     Texas Turbine Catches Fire After Lightning Strike

2.     Pennsylvania Turbine Catches Fire

3.     Massachusetts Turbine Blade Falls Along Route 128

4.     Colorado Turbine Collapses

If this can happen in other states, turbines in Tazewell County are not exempt. We must protect our homes and properties with larger setbacks. Safety of the citizens in Tazewell County should become a number one priority.
